Struktur Kalimat Simple Past Tense

Simple Past adalah suatu tindakan atau kejadian yang terjadi di masa lalu.

Di dalam mempelajari Simple Past ada 3 poin penting yang perlu diketahui yaitu:

1.Function (fungsi)

2. Adverb of time/time signal  (keterangan waktu)

3. Form/formula (bentuk/rumus)


1. Simple Past has the functions:

  • To talk about the activity that began and ended at a particular time  in the  past. (membicarakan tentang aktifitas yang dimulai dan berakhir pada waktu  tertentu di waktu lampau)

             Contoh: I moved in Bekasi 25 years ago.

  • To talk about a person past habit. (membicarakan kebiasaan seseorang di    waktu lampau)

       Contoh : When my father was young, he always played football  with his                             friends

     2. Adverbs of time (Keterangan waktu)  in Simple Past

  • Last …   last week, last month, last year, last night
  • Yesterday
  • .... ago     two weeks ago, three months ago, one year ago
    3. Pola kalimat simple past tense terbagi menjadi 3 rumus, yaitu 
       1. Verbal simple past tense , 
       2. Nominal simple past tense  
       3. 5WH question

  1. Verbal Simple Past (Kalimat yang menggunakan Verb(kata kerja)

Subject + Verb2 + Object

(-)

Subject + did + not + verb1

(?)

Did + Subject + Verb1

     Contoh kalimat verbal simple past tense:

       (+)  My father bought a car yesterday

                       (-)  My father did not buy a car yesterday

3.                    (?) Did my father/your father buy a car yesterday?

             Yes.he did  or No,he did not (didn’t)

Notes: 

Pada simple past tense, kata kerja kedua (V2) hanya digunakan pada kalimat positif. Jika bentuk kalimatnya negative (-)  dan pertanyaan (?), maka akan kembali ke kata kerja dasar pertama dengan menambahkan did sebelum kata kerja dan di awal kalimat pada kalimat pertanyaan.

2. Nominal Simple Past (Kalimat yang tidak menggunakan verb (kata kerja)

Subject + to be (was/were) + adjective/adverb

Subject +to be (was/were) + adjective/adverb

(?)

to be (was/were) + Subject + adjective/adverb

     Contoh kalimat nominal simple past tense

1.            (+)  I was sick yesterday

2.            (-)  I was not sick yesterday

3.            (?)  Were you sick yesterday ?  Yes,I was   or  No, I was not (wasn’t)

Notes:  Was digunakan untuk subjek I, She, He, It

             Were digunakan untuk subjek You, They, We


 3. 5W/H Question Simple Past (Kalimat yang menggunakan kata Tanya         

    5W/H)

       5W/H + did  + Subject  +  V1 ?

5W/H  +  to be (was/were) +  Subject + adjective/adverb ?

   Contoh kalimat 5W/H simple past tense

1.          Where did you go yesterday ?

2.          What did she buy ?

3.          Why were you absent last week ?

    Notes : 5W à  What, Where, Who, When, Why

                  Apa, Dimana, Siapa, Kapan, Mengapa

        H  à   How = Bagaimana
